The TTESOL Major at Providence is designed to prepare students to become effective trainers of English language teachers by focusing on essential areas in language teacher education. The Language Teacher Education course provides foundational knowledge on how to support and develop English teachers’ skills, emphasizing adult learning theories, teacher development, and practical strategies for training educators in diverse contexts. Language Curriculum Development focuses on designing, organizing, and implementing effective English language curricula tailored to meet the needs of different learner populations. This course helps students understand curriculum theory and practice, ensuring they can create flexible and meaningful learning experiences. Assessment, Placement & Evaluation in TESOL explores various tools and techniques used to measure language proficiency, assess learner progress, and place students appropriately in programs. Students learn how to develop fair, valid, and reliable assessments aligned with teaching goals and curriculum objectives. Together, these courses equip graduates with the expertise to lead and support English language teaching professionals through curriculum planning, teacher training, and learner assessment, making them valuable contributors in educational institutions locally and globally.
