COURSE CURRICULUM

The TESOL Major at Providence focuses on equipping students with a deep understanding of the essential linguistic components necessary for teaching English to speakers of other languages. Courses such as Morphology & Phonology explore the structure and sound systems of language, providing a foundation for analyzing how English is constructed and pronounced. Applied Linguistics II: Syntax advances this knowledge by examining sentence structure and grammatical rules, helping students understand how language is organized and used in communication. The Second Language Acquisition course investigates the processes by which people learn a new language, including the cognitive, social, and cultural factors that influence language learning. Together, these courses offer a comprehensive approach to language study, combining theory with practical application. This prepares students to design effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse learners’ needs, ensuring they can support language acquisition in varied educational contexts.
