COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Counselling program at Providence combines rigorous training from both the Department of Counselling and the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies, ensuring a comprehensive education that integrates psychological principles with a Christian worldview. Counselling courses include Counselling Theory Practicum I through IV, Marriage and Family Counselling, Ethical and Legal Issues for Counsellors, Crisis and Trauma Counselling, Counselling Across Cultures, Theories of Counselling and Psychotherapy, Psychopathology, Psychological Assessment, and Human Development. These courses equip students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge to address diverse counselling needs. Complementing this, the Biblical and Theological Studies courses such as Reading the Church’s Bible, Integration of Theology and Psychology, Theology and Practice of Christian Spirituality and Formation, Theological Foundations, along with electives in Old Testament, New Testament, and Theology, provide a strong foundation in Christian faith and spirituality. This unique combination prepares graduates to offer holistic and effective counselling services that respect both mental health science and spiritual care, enabling them to minister effectively in various settings including churches, clinics, and community organizations. Students graduate with the ability to meet ethical challenges, support individuals and families through trauma and crises, and promote healing in culturally sensitive and spiritually grounded ways.
