COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Biology program at Providence University College offers a well-structured and engaging first-year course lineup that combines foundational science education with faith-based learning and practical experience. In the Fall (September) semester, students begin with Introduction to Biology 1 along with a lab component, providing essential knowledge of biological principles. They also take Reading the Bible: Methods & Formation, which encourages theological reflection and scriptural understanding. An open science elective allows students to tailor their interests by choosing from courses such as Essentials of Microbiology, Human Anatomy 1 with Lab, or Introduction to Chemistry 1 with Lab. Introduction to Communications & Media enhances students’ academic and professional communication skills, while Field Education offers hands-on volunteer experience in a real-world setting. In the Winter (January) semester, students continue with Introduction to Biology 2 and lab work, building upon their first-term foundation. Statistical Analysis equips them with the quantitative skills necessary for scientific research. Introduction to the Old Testament provides further biblical grounding. Students choose another science elective, such as Human Anatomy or Chemistry 2, and an elective from Psychology, Sociology, or Anthropology—like Introduction to Psychology or Introduction to Sociology—broadening their understanding of human behavior. Together, these courses foster both academic excellence and holistic personal development.
