COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science (MSc) in Materials Science program, jointly offered by Ontario Tech University and Trent University, includes a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical foundations with advanced research training. Core courses such as Physics and Chemistry of Materials (MTSC 6010G) and Advanced Topics in Materials Science (MTSC 6020G) provide essential knowledge in the field, while Experimental Techniques in Materials Characterization (MTSC 6140G) equips students with hands-on laboratory skills. Specialized courses like Electrochemical Methods and Materials (MTSC 6330G), Surface Science and Catalysis (MTSC 6510G), Nanomaterials (MTSC 6520G), and Carbon Based Materials (MTSC 6530G) offer focused learning in key sub-disciplines. Graduate seminars (MTSC 6000G and MTSC 6100G) enhance students' science communication skills, a vital component of research dissemination. Additional topics are explored through Topics in Applied Materials Science II (MTSC 6270G) and Advanced Topics in Theoretical Materials Science (MTSC 7420G), allowing for depth in either experimental or theoretical research. Students pursuing a thesis complete MTSC 6050G, engaging in independent research under faculty supervision.
