COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Social Practice and Innovation (MSPI) program spans two years and is designed to equip students with interdisciplinary knowledge and practical skills to address complex social issues. In the first year, the Fall semester includes foundational courses such as MSPI 5010G Interdisciplinary Theory and Practice I (3 credits) and MSPI 5030G Foundations for Social Practice and Innovation (6 credits). The Winter semester continues with MSPI 5020G Interdisciplinary Theory and Practice II (3 credits), alongside a choice of two elective courses from options like MSPI 5040G Advocacy, Change and Social Practices; MSPI 5050G Communicating Law and Politics in Everyday Life; MSPI 5060G Information, Power, and Democracy; MSPI 5070G Special Topics in Interdisciplinary Studies; MSPI 5080G Directed Studies; or approved cross-listed 4000U level courses. During the Spring/Summer semester, students engage in MSPI 5001G Major Research Project I (6 credits), where they begin their community-engaged research. In the second year, students focus on MSPI 5002G Major Research Project II (6 credits) during the Fall semester, culminating their research and practical application of their interdisciplinary learning. This program structure blends theory, elective specialization, and hands-on community engagement, preparing graduates to lead innovative social change initiatives through comprehensive academic and experiential learning.
