COURSE CURRICULUM

The Developmental Psychological Science curriculum provides students with a robust interdisciplinary foundation in human development, combining psychology, biology, neuroscience, health sciences, and education. Core psychology courses such as Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, and Brain and Behaviour allow students to understand emotional, cognitive, and behavioural growth across the lifespan. Research and data literacy are emphasized through courses like Research Methods in Psychology, Data Analysis, Advanced Data Analysis, and Honours Thesis I and II. Specialized subjects such as Developmental Psychopathology, Social Affective Neuroscience, Biopsychology of Sex, and Sleep and Consciousness deepen students’ understanding of complex developmental phenomena. Supporting courses in biology and chemistry, including Biology I & II, Fundamentals of Neuroscience, and Neuropharmacology, reinforce scientific literacy and strengthen understanding of the biological underpinnings of behaviour. The program also offers practical and applied experiences through a practicum and electives like Child Maltreatment, Adolescence, Children and the Law, and Exploring Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. Courses in education and health sciences—such as Holistic Learning in Early Childhood Education, Child and Adolescent Health, and Perspectives in Aging—provide additional context for understanding development across all stages of life. Overall, the program prepares students for careers in mental health, education, research, health services, or further academic training in psychology or related fields.
