COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied Biotechnology program at Ontario Tech University spans four years and includes a blend of foundational science courses, advanced biological studies, and electives to tailor the learning experience. In Year 1, students complete core subjects such as BIOL 1000U (Foundations in Bioscience), BIOL 1010U and 1020U (Biology I and II), CHEM 1010U and 1020U (Chemistry I and II), CSCI 1040U (Programming for Scientists), MATH 1015U (Mathematics for Bioscience), and introductory physics courses. Year 2 builds on this foundation with courses like BIOL 2010U (Human Physiology), BIOL 2020U (Genetics and Molecular Biology), BIOL 2030U (Cell Biology), BIOL 2060U (Microbiology), BIOL 2080U (Biochemistry I), alongside CHEM 2020U, CHEM 2130U, and STAT 2020U. In Year 3, students explore applied and advanced topics including BIOL 3010U (Molecular Biology Lab), BIOL 3020U (Pharmacology and Toxicology), BIOL 3032U (Advanced Microbiology), BIOL 3040U (Animal Physiology), and others, with space for electives. Year 4 focuses on specialization, with courses like BIOL 4040U (Applied Molecular Biology), BIOL 4050U (Pharmaceutical Biotechnology), BIOL 4060U (Genomics and Proteomics), BIOL 4080U (Bioethics), and the option to complete a two-part thesis project (BIOL 4410U and 4420U) or select senior electives.
