COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Laboratory Science – Northern Access Initiative program offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for clinical laboratory practice through a blend of foundational science courses, medical laboratory theory, and hands-on training. Students begin with essential subjects such as Biology I: Molecular and Cellular Systems, Chemistry I and II, Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Mathematical Modelling for Health Science, Statistics, and Information Literacy and Written Communication for the Health Sciences. As they progress, students study Pathophysiology I and II, Research Methods, and receive foundational knowledge in clinical laboratory sciences through courses like Foundations in Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Practice, Clinical Microbiology and Immunology, and Microanatomy and Histotechnology. Advanced clinical courses follow in Clinical Biochemistry I–IV, Clinical Hematology I–IV, Clinical Microbiology I–IV, Transfusion Science I–IV, Histopathology I and II, and Molecular Techniques. Leadership and quality management are integrated through Effective Leadership and Quality Management in the Clinical Laboratory, along with simulated and real-world experiences via the Simulated Clinical Practicum and Professional Practice I and II. The program culminates in Clinical Project I and II and emphasizes collaborative healthcare practice with Interdisciplinary Collaboration. Graduates are well-prepared for national certification and to work in diagnostic laboratories across Canada.
