COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Health Science specialization includes a comprehensive and interdisciplinary course load designed to build a strong foundation in human biology, disease mechanisms, and health sciences. Students begin with foundational science courses such as BIOL 1010U and BIOL 1020U, covering molecular, cellular, and ecological systems, along with CHEM 1010U and CHEM 1020U for chemistry fundamentals. Core health sciences courses include HLSC 1200U, 1201U, and 2465U in anatomy and physiology, alongside progressive studies in pathophysiology through HLSC 2462U, 2463U, 3464U, and 4310U, which explore mechanisms of disease and pharmacological interactions. Students also study microbiology (HLSC 2130U), genetics (HLSC 3463U), nutrition (HLSC 2825U), and clinical biochemistry (HLSC 2110U), gaining a comprehensive understanding of human health. Complementary courses in public health (HLSC 3820U), ethics (HLSC 3710U), aging (HLSC 4807U), mental health (HLSC 4808U), and chronic conditions (HLSC 3473U) offer a holistic view of wellness and care. Research and communication skills are developed through HLSC 1701U, 2030U, 3910U, and a series of research applications and practicums (HLSC 4996U–4999U). Supporting courses such as PSYC 1000U and HLSC 1811U examine psychological and social determinants of health, creating a well-rounded preparation for careers or further study in health-related fields.
