COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Sciences program offers two distinct specializations—Human Health Science and Public Health—each designed to provide students with a strong foundation in health-related sciences and prepare them for diverse roles in healthcare. The Human Health Science specialization emphasizes scientific understanding of the human body and disease processes, with courses in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology, cancer biology, and nutrition, alongside core topics like ethics, mental health, research methods, and Canadian healthcare. Students gain hands-on experience through research applications and practicums. In contrast, the Public Health specialization focuses on population-level health, examining social determinants of health, epidemiology, program planning, global health, policy development, and health services management. Courses include health promotion, public health microbiology, health information systems, critical perspectives on health and illness, and mental health in public contexts. Both streams share foundational courses in biology, chemistry, psychology, health promotion, ethics, and research methods, while offering advanced content tailored to their specialization. With its interdisciplinary approach, the program equips students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to pursue further education or careers in medicine, public health, health administration, research, and various allied health fields, while also allowing for the option to pursue a Minor in Legal Studies.
