COURSE CURRICULUM

Smart Grid specialization offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines core electrical engineering principles with advanced knowledge in smart grid technologies. Students begin with foundational courses in calculus, physics, chemistry, programming, and engineering design, then progress to specialized subjects such as circuit analysis, digital systems, electromagnetics, signals and systems, electronic circuit design, and electric machines. A strong emphasis is placed on control systems, microprocessors, communications, and power systems to ensure a deep understanding of modern electrical infrastructure. The specialization introduces smart grid-specific courses like Fundamentals of Smart Grid, Smart Grid Networking and Security, Power System Protection Relaying, and Introduction to Power Electronics, focusing on the integration of digital communication, automation, and cybersecurity into energy systems. Supporting topics include probability and random signals, engineering economics, wireless and digital communications, and advanced computer networks. Students also explore emerging areas such as microwave and RF circuits, advanced control systems, and digital signal processing. The program culminates in a two-part Capstone Systems Design project, where students apply their knowledge to real-world engineering challenges.
