COURSE CURRICULUM

The Commerce program begins with a common curriculum during the first two years, designed to build foundational business skills through simulations, teamwork, and case studies. Key courses include BUSI 1030U (Writing and Critical Thinking), BUSI 1130U (Introduction to Financial Accounting), BUSI 1450U (Statistics for Business), BUSI 1520U (Introduction to Business Analytics), and BUSI 1600U (Management of the Enterprise). Students also study fundamental topics such as business mathematics, information systems, marketing management, organizational behaviour, finance, operations management, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. The program incorporates specialized workshops and projects, including the FBIT Student Success Workshop, Career Readiness Workshop, Capstone Study Project, Internship, and Venture Creation courses, fostering practical skills and career readiness. In the third year, students may proceed to the Accounting major, which includes advanced accounting and finance courses such as Intermediate and Advanced Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Taxation, Auditing Standards, and Managerial Accounting. Additional courses cover databases and business intelligence, legal environments of business, and business sustainability. This comprehensive curriculum equips students with technical expertise, analytical abilities, and critical thinking skills necessary to excel in accounting and broader business environments, preparing them for professional certification and diverse career opportunities in the field.
