COURSE CURRICULUM

The Science, Technology and Society specialization includes a selection of interdisciplinary courses that provide students with critical insights into how science and technology interact with social, political, legal, and environmental systems. SSCI 1470U – Impact of Science and Technology on Society introduces foundational concepts by examining how technological advancements influence culture, institutions, and everyday life. POSC 1200U – Introduction to Democracy in Theory & Practice explores the functioning of democratic systems and their responses to scientific and technological developments. COMM 3350U – Environmental Communication: Media and Tech for Sustainability focuses on how media and communication technologies shape public understanding of environmental issues and promote sustainable practices. LGLS 3520U – Law and Technology investigates the legal implications of emerging technologies, addressing privacy, intellectual property, regulation, and the changing nature of law in the digital age. COMM 4120U – AI, Ethics and Communication explores the ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence and its impact on communication, decision-making, and society. Together, these courses equip students with a nuanced understanding of the complex and evolving relationships between technology, law, politics, media, and society, preparing them to critically engage with current and future issues at the intersection of innovation and social change.
