COURSE CURRICULUM

The Developmental Psychological Science program offers a comprehensive curriculum that examines human development from infancy through old age. Courses such as Developmental Psychology, Developmental Neuroscience, and Developmental Psychopathology provide a deep understanding of emotional, cognitive, and social changes across the lifespan. Students gain strong foundational knowledge through core courses like Introductory Psychology, Brain and Behaviour, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology. Advanced topics such as Social Affective Neuroscience, Thinking and Decision Making, Sleep and Consciousness, Child Maltreatment, Adolescence, and Perspectives in Aging enhance students’ ability to analyze complex developmental processes. The program also includes neuroscience-focused courses like Fundamentals of Neuroscience, Neuropharmacology, and Biopsychology of Sex, bridging biology and psychology. Through research-oriented courses like Research Methods in Psychology, Data Analysis in Psychology, Advanced Data Analysis, and Honours Thesis I and II, students build strong analytical and methodological skills. Complementary interdisciplinary courses in health sciences, criminology, education, and communication—such as Social Determinants of Health, Exploring Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Foundations of Adult Learning, and Holistic Learning in Early Childhood Education—offer a broad perspective on development. A practicum experience also allows students to apply knowledge in real-world settings, preparing them for diverse careers or graduate studies in psychology, education, health, or social services.
