COURSE CURRICULUM

The Water Engineering Technology Diploma is a two-year program providing students with a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills for careers in the water industry. In the first year, all students complete foundational courses including introductory chemistry, applied hydrology, water quality and treatment processes, basic instrumentation, environmental biology, water chemistry, water distribution and wastewater collection, operations, planning and maintenance, surveying, and chlorine handling and disinfection technologies, alongside technical communication and mathematics courses, with Co-op Work Terms in the summer and fall providing hands-on industry experience. In the second year, students choose between the Water and Wastewater Technology (WWT) or Environmental Monitoring (EM) options. The WWT option includes microbiology of water and wastewater, advanced operations and maintenance, wastewater treatment, applied water law, analytical chemistry, computer applications, advanced treatment technologies, process control, and a Wet Capstone Project, along with an optional course in applied data analytics or calculus. The EM option emphasizes applied hydrogeology, freshwater biology, limnology, microbiology, applied water law, analytical chemistry, computer applications, advanced treatment technologies, and a Wet Capstone Project, also with an optional course in data analytics or calculus. Both options integrate Co-op Work Terms to reinforce learning and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in water treatment, distribution, monitoring, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance across municipal, industrial, and environmental sectors.
