COURSE CURRICULUM

The Tourism Management Diploma at Okanagan College is a structured two-year program that combines foundational business and tourism knowledge with applied, hands-on learning to prepare students for careers in the tourism industry. In Year 1, the fall term includes courses such as Introduction to Tourism, Professional Writing I, Management Principles, Computer Applications I, and Tourism Marketing, providing students with essential skills in communication, business operations, and marketing. The winter term builds on this foundation with Accounting for Tourism, Professional Sales, Digital Marketing, Hotel Management, and Tourism Law, or alternatively Business Law, equipping students with practical, legal, and financial knowledge relevant to tourism management. Year 2 focuses on advanced and applied learning. In the fall term, students complete courses in Restaurant Management, Service Design for Tourism, Human Resources Management, Emerging Trends in Destination Management, and Tourism Sector Study A, a faculty-supervised applied course. The winter term includes Tourism for Small and Medium Enterprises, Organizational Behaviour, Tourism Sector Study B, and two electives selected from options such as Wine and Culinary Tourism, Rural and Agri-Tourism Development, Eco and Adventure Tourism, Conventions Management, Events Planning, or Multicultural Management, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. This curriculum integrates theory, applied learning, and industry exposure, preparing graduates for supervisory or management roles in diverse tourism settings.
