COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma program at Okanagan College is a comprehensive two-year program designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical skills required for careers in mechanical engineering technology. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in engineering graphics, materials technology, statics, dynamics, and applied engineering principles, alongside hands-on skills in mechanical fabrication, welding, fluid power, and manufacturing processes. Mathematics and technical communication courses provide essential analytical and professional skills, while co-operative education seminars prepare students for workplace integration. Students also complete two four-month co-op work terms to gain real-world experience. Year 2 advances students’ expertise through courses in machine design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, automation, electronics, operations management, applied thermodynamics and HVAC, robotics, computer-aided manufacturing, and technology management and quality. Engineering graphics courses continue throughout the program, with intensive one-week modules enhancing practical design proficiency. The program culminates with a capstone project and a fourth co-op term, allowing students to apply their cumulative knowledge and skills in practical settings. Graduates emerge prepared for diverse roles in mechanical systems, manufacturing, automation, HVAC, robotics, and related industries, with hands-on experience, technical competence, and professional communication skills, ready to contribute effectively in engineering technology workplaces.
