COURSE CURRICULUM

The General Studies option of the Kinesiology Diploma at Okanagan College offers students maximum flexibility to combine foundational kinesiology courses with electives from arts, sciences, and business, allowing for a broad and personalized academic experience. In the first year, students take courses such as Health, Fitness and Lifestyle, Human Anatomy I for Kinesiology, Human Physiology I for Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, University Writing, Exercise Prescription for Health, Human Anatomy and Physiology II for Kinesiology, and Motor Learning and Control, along with six elective credits chosen from kinesiology, business, arts, or sciences. The second year builds on this foundation with more specialized courses including Exercise Physiology, Science of Strength and Conditioning, Physical Activity in Canadian Society, Growth and Motor Development, Health, Policy and Canadian Society, and Biomechanics, paired with six elective credits per semester. This program option allows students to tailor their studies to individual interests, career goals, or pathways toward further education, while developing core skills in human movement, exercise science, and health promotion. By integrating academic knowledge with practical and interdisciplinary learning opportunities, students gain critical thinking, research, communication, and professional skills that are applicable in a wide variety of health, fitness, recreation, education, and community wellness careers, as well as in preparation for transfer to bachelor-level programs.
