COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education option of the Kinesiology Diploma at Okanagan College is designed for students interested in pursuing a career as an education professional, such as teaching, and allows up to 60 credits to transfer toward a related bachelor’s degree. The program provides a comprehensive foundation in kinesiology while integrating knowledge essential for educational practice. In the first year, students build core competencies with courses such as Health, Fitness and Lifestyle, Human Anatomy I for Kinesiology, Human Physiology I for Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, University Writing, Exercise Prescription for Health, Human Anatomy and Physiology II, Motor Learning and Control, Health and Human Nutrition, and Physical Literacy for Life, establishing a strong understanding of human movement, health, and development. In the second year, students advance to more specialized courses including Exercise Physiology, Science of Strength and Conditioning, Physical Activity in Canadian Society, Research Methods in Kinesiology, Growth and Motor Development, Health, Policy and Canadian Society, Community Program Planning, and Biomechanics, while also completing six credits of electives chosen from business, kinesiology, arts, or sciences. This program equips students with the knowledge, practical skills, and research understanding necessary to apply kinesiology principles in educational settings, promote physical literacy, and prepare for further academic and professional advancement in teaching and related fields.
