COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminal and Social Justice diploma program structured curriculum designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and specialized skills in the field. In Semester 2, the focus continues with PSYC 121 (Introduction to Psychology: Personal Functioning), SOCI 121 (Introduction to Sociology II), CRIM 121 (Introduction to the Criminal Justice System), GSWS 100 (Introduction to Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies), and an elective worth 3 credits. Moving into Year 2, Semester 3, students deepen their knowledge with courses such as CRIM 235 (Canadian Law and Legal Institutions), CRIM 260 (Social Science Research Methods), and SOCI 270 (Deviance and Social Control). They also choose between CRIM 240 or PHIL 250 for Applied Ethics, and select one course from a range of psychology and sociology options including PSYC 250 (Interpersonal Relations), PSYC 231 (Drugs and Behaviour), PSYC 242 (Abnormal Psychology), PSYC 255 (Introduction to Psychology and Law), PSYC 230 (The Biopsychology of Behaviour), or SOCI 250 (Crime and Society). In the final semester, Semester 4, required courses include CRIM 210 (Law, Youth and Young Offenders), CRIM 230 (Criminal Law), and CRIM 203 (Psychological Perspectives on Crime and Deviance). Students must also select either SOCI 271 (Statistical Analysis in Sociology I) or PSYC 270 (Statistics and Data Analysis), alongside a 3-credit elective. This comprehensive course structure equips students with theoretical knowledge, research skills, and applied perspectives essential for careers or further studies in criminal and social justice.
