COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technology Diploma at Okanagan College is a two-year, full-time program that combines technical coursework with practical co-op experiences to prepare students for careers in civil engineering and construction. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in drafting, construction surveying, concrete technology, statics and strength of materials, engineering applications, microcomputer orientation, technical communication, and mathematics for civil engineering, while also participating in co-op education seminars to prepare for industry placements. The second semester builds on these foundations with advanced drafting, surveying, highway material testing, structural design, hydraulics, and software applications, and includes the first two co-op work terms, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in professional settings. In the second year, students focus on watershed management, construction estimating, engineering soils, structural design in wood, municipal design, highway materials testing, geometric road design, and technical communication, complemented by a third co-op work term to further develop practical skills. The final semester emphasizes project work, project management, steel detailing and estimating, structural design in concrete, municipal engineering, pavements, construction law, and subdivision design, providing comprehensive technical and professional preparation. This program equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to succeed as civil engineering technologists, ready to contribute to a wide range of infrastructure and construction projects.
