COURSE CURRICULUM

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is structured as a three-semester sequence designed to progressively build students’ academic English proficiency for post-secondary studies. In Semester 1, students develop foundational skills through courses in academic discussion, reading, writing, and scholarship, focusing on basic academic vocabulary, sentence structure, reading comprehension, paragraph development, and effective participation in classroom discussions. Semester 2 builds on these fundamentals by strengthening critical reading and writing abilities, expanding academic vocabulary, improving organization and coherence in written work, and enhancing oral communication skills through more complex discussions and presentations. Students are also introduced to research skills, source evaluation, and academic integrity at a deeper level. In Semester 3, learners refine advanced academic skills required for college and university success, including analytical reading, essay writing, synthesis of sources, formal academic discussions, and independent learning strategies. Courses emphasize critical thinking, argument development, academic conventions, and confident communication in an academic environment. Throughout all three semesters, the integrated approach ensures balanced development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Successful completion of the final level prepares students to meet English language requirements equivalent to English 12 and equips them with the confidence and competence needed to transition into academic programs across a wide range of disciplines.
