COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Information Systems (BCIS) is a four-year degree program that prepares students for versatile careers in the IT industry by combining a strong foundation in computing with mathematics, communications, and business. In Year 1, students complete core computing courses such as Computer Programming I and II, Systems Analysis, Operating Systems, and Networks, along with two mathematics courses and two technical communications courses. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced courses in data structures, web development, GUI programming, object-oriented analysis, databases, operating systems, and project management. In Years 3 and 4, students select one of three specialization options: Software Design and Development, Database and Big Data Management, or General Studies. Each option requires completion of 30 credits in focused upper-level computing topics, including software engineering, mobile and network programming, database systems, data mining, and emerging technologies like microservices and cloud platforms. All students must also complete BUAD 123 (Management Principles) and PHIL 331 (Ethics of Computer Usage), alongside 24 credits of electives. To graduate, students must fulfill minimum credit requirements across academic categories: at least 78 credits from Group 1 (Science, Technology, Engineering), 15 from Group 2 (Communications and Arts), 6 from Group 3 (Business), and a total of 42 upper-level credits, including 36 from Group 1. The program structure ensures that graduates are technically skilled, ethically grounded, and adaptable to a variety of computing roles.
