COURSE CURRICULUM

Associate of Science Degree with a Computer Science Emphasis, students must complete a specialized set of computer science and mathematics courses that provide a strong foundation in programming, computational theory, and analytical problem-solving. The program requires students to complete COSC 111 Computer Programming I and COSC 121 Computer Programming II, which introduce programming fundamentals, algorithm development, and software design. Students also complete COSC 211 Machine Architecture to understand computer hardware systems and low-level operations, COSC 222 Computer Data Structures to study efficient data organization and algorithms, and COSC 231 Principles of Computer Science, which explores theoretical and practical aspects of computing. In addition to computer science coursework, students are required to complete MATH 122 Calculus II, MATH 212 Calculus III, and MATH 221 Linear Algebra I, which strengthen mathematical reasoning and quantitative analysis skills essential for advanced computing concepts. Students must also complete at least one course in discrete mathematics, either COSC 221 Introduction to Discrete Structures or MATH 251 Introduction to Discrete Structures, to develop logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities used in computer science. Overall, this curriculum prepares students for further university studies and careers in software development, information technology, data science, artificial intelligence, and other technology-related fields.
