COURSE CURRICULUM

Associate of Science Degree with a Biology Emphasis, students must complete a carefully structured selection of biology, chemistry, and physics courses that provide a strong scientific foundation for further academic study and professional development. Students are required to complete BIOL 111 Biology for Science Majors I and BIOL 121 Biology for Science Majors II, which introduce essential biological concepts and laboratory skills. In chemistry, students must complete either CHEM 111 Principles of Chemistry I and CHEM 121 Principles of Chemistry II, or CHEM 112 Introductory Chemistry I and CHEM 121 Principles of Chemistry II, followed by CHEM 212 Organic Chemistry I and CHEM 222 Organic Chemistry II to develop a deeper understanding of chemical processes relevant to biological sciences. For physics requirements, students choose either PHYS 111 Calculus-Based Physics I and PHYS 121 Calculus-Based Physics II, or PHYS 112 Introductory Physics I and PHYS 122 Introductory Physics II. In addition, students must complete at least six credits from advanced biology-related courses such as ecology, genetics, microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, vascular plants, vertebrate biology, or applied statistics. This curriculum develops analytical thinking, laboratory competence, scientific reasoning, and interdisciplinary knowledge essential for future studies and careers in science and healthcare.
