COURSE CURRICULUM

Associate of Science Degree in Environmental Science, students must earn a minimum of 60 credits from first- and second-year courses, typically around 20 courses, including at least 18 credits (six courses) in second-year Sciences across two or more disciplines. The specific requirements begin with 6 credits in 100-level English, which includes ENGL-100 Academic Writing (3 credits) and one university-level English course such as ENGL-111 Poetry and Drama or ENGL-112 Prose Fiction (3 credits). For mathematics, 6 credits are required, including MATH 101 Calculus I or MATH 105 Calculus for the Biological and Social Sciences (3 credits) plus MATH-104 Introduction to Statistics or MATH 102 Calculus II (3 credits). Science courses total 36 credits and must include BIOL-101 Introductory Biology I (4 credits), BIOL-102 Introductory Biology II (4 credits), CHEM-103 Fundamentals of Chemistry I (4 credits), CHEM-104 Fundamentals of Chemistry II (4 credits), GEOG-112 Surface of the Earth (3 credits), GEOG-114 Weather and Climate (3 credits), and SOIL-117 Intro to Soil Science (3 credits). Students must also take either FNST-100 Indigenous Peoples of Canada or FNST-102 Treaties and Aboriginal Rights (3 credits), plus any four courses from options such as FRST-225 Forest Ecology, GEOG-250 Cartography, LAND-227 Wildlife Habitat Conservation, LAND-255 Land Reclamation, and others. Additionally, students must complete 6 credits in Arts courses other than English, with recommended choices including ANTH-101 Cultural/Social Anthropology I, HIST-103 Canada Pre-Confederation, PHIL-101 Introduction to Philosophy I, ECON-101 Principles of Economics (Micro), and PSYC-101 Introduction to Psychology I, among others. Finally, 6 credits are required in any Arts, Sciences, or Humanities courses, with recommended courses including BIOL-125 Basic Ecology, GEOL-102 Introduction to Earth History, PHYS-103 Mechanics (Calculus), and PHYS-104 Electromagnetism & Waves. Note that a single course cannot be used to satisfy more than one specific requirement category.
