COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Science Degree in Computing and Information Sciences requires students to complete 60 credits, typically consisting of 20 first- and second-year courses. These must include at least 18 credits of second-year science courses from two or more subject areas. The program includes six credits in English, starting with ENGL 100 Academic Writing and one additional university-level English course, with preferred options being ENGL 111 Poetry and Drama or ENGL 112 Prose Fiction. The math and science requirements include two laboratory-based science courses, with preferred pairs for transfer credit such as PHYS 103/104, BIOL 101/102, or CHEM 103/104, each valued at eight credits. Students must also complete four math courses: MATH 101 Calculus I, MATH 102 Calculus II, MATH 115 Discrete Mathematics, and MATH 152 Introduction to Linear Algebra, each worth three credits. For the computing and information sciences portion, students must earn 18 credits, including CPSC 123 Introduction to Object Oriented Programming C++, ITEC 220 Object Oriented Programming with Java, and NCIT 212 Object Oriented Programming II. Additionally, students select two courses from a list including web development, mobile app development, computer graphics, network infrastructure, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. One more course is chosen from options such as database design, human-computer interaction, or project-based field experience, all three credits each. Furthermore, students complete 12 credits of second-year or higher science courses, with at least one outside computing disciplines, and 6 credits of arts courses excluding English, math, and lab sciences. This combination of courses provides a solid foundation in computing, math, science, and communication skills, preparing students for employment in fields such as cloud computing, software development, and artificial intelligence, or for transfer to a four-year Computer Science degree program.
