COURSE CURRICULUM

Information Resources Management at Northern Lights College is composed of a comprehensive curriculum that integrates business, finance, and IT disciplines to prepare students for leadership roles in information systems and data governance. The program requires successful completion of courses across four main categories: Language, Required Courses, Closed Management Electives, and Closed Electives. Under Language, students must complete ENGL110 Introduction to Workplace Communications (3.0 credits). The Required Courses category includes foundational and advanced content such as ECON105 Principles of Economics, FNST100 Indigenous Peoples of Canada or FNST102 Treaties and Aboriginal Rights, ITEC251 Cyber Security Analysis, ITEC150 Small Computer Systems, ITEC210 Database Design, MGMT104 Principles of Management, MGMT107 Fundamentals of Marketing, and quantitative-focused options like MGMT111 or MATH108/152 for Finite Mathematics and Linear Algebra. Further required coursework includes MGMT120 and MGMT201 or MGMT221 in accounting, MGMT260 Corporate Finance, MGMT290 Quantitative Methods, MGMT295 Management Science, and two capstone-style courses: MGMT450 Principles of Project Management and MGMT453 Project Management Seminar – IT Specialization. Students must also choose three Closed Management Electives from a diverse list including HR, taxation, strategic management, and business law. In addition, two Closed Electives must be completed from a range that includes computing, economics, writing, mathematics, and logic courses, such as CPSC101 Introduction to Computing, ECON210 Managerial Economics, ENGL100, ITEC243 Cloud Computing, and PHIL110 Logic and Critical Thinking. The program’s structure ensures that graduates not only understand the technical aspects of IT systems but also gain proficiency in managing projects, interpreting financial data, and applying ethical and strategic thinking in complex business environments. This integrated learning path makes graduates highly competitive for positions at the intersection of IT and business management.
