COURSE CURRICULUM

The WELF101 Welder Foundation course consists of 840 contact hours designed to train students in welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in all positions on both plate and pipe using SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW welding processes. Students learn to operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, as well as flame-cutting, brazing, and air-arcing tools. The program also covers the use of metalworking machines such as brakes, shears, and other equipment for straightening and bending metal. Welders are trained to plan their work by interpreting drawings or analyzing job tasks to determine the appropriate materials and welding methods required. Specializations may include custom fabrication, shipbuilding and repair, pressure vessel welding, pipeline construction welding, structural welding, or machinery and equipment repair. Students learn to read and use blueprint symbols for machining operations and verify product specifications using precision measuring instruments. Maintenance of welding equipment and replacement of worn parts are also emphasized. Throughout the program, students keep a detailed logbook documenting their training, competencies, certifications, endorsements, and work history, preparing them for advanced apprenticeship and professional welding careers.
