COURSE CURRICULUM

The Project Management graduate certificate program offers students a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that prepares them to lead projects across various industries. In Semester 1, students build a solid foundation in essential project management skills. They learn to create detailed project schedules using Microsoft Project in Project Scheduling, while Project Planning focuses on managing time, conflict, and other organizational behaviors critical to successful execution. General Business Principles introduces key concepts in finance, marketing, operations, and management, which are valuable for understanding project impacts on an organization. Business Communication emphasizes professional communication skills needed to develop reports, proposals, and clear business correspondence. Career Planning and Professional Skills helps students prepare for their professional journey with a focus on resume writing, interviewing, and networking, while Project Management provides a deep dive into PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), covering all stages of the project lifecycle. In Semester 2, students take on more advanced topics including Project Risk Management, where they learn to identify, assess, and mitigate potential project risks. The Capstone course allows students to apply everything learned to real-world scenarios, simulating the responsibilities of a professional project manager. Project Leadership explores key interpersonal and team management skills, while Project Cost and Finance Management focuses on budgeting, cost estimation, cash flow, and value analysis. Procurement and Contract Management provides essential knowledge about the procurement lifecycle and legal aspects of contract execution. Finally, Indigenous Culture and Awareness introduces students to Indigenous history and perspectives in Canada, fostering cultural understanding and inclusivity in the workplace. With a curriculum aligned to PMI standards and focused on both technical and leadership competencies, graduates are well-prepared to pursue PMI certification and begin careers as effective, confident project management professionals ready to contribute meaningfully to their organizations.
