The Health Care Management program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills for leadership roles in healthcare settings. In Semester 1, students begin with Introduction to Patient Care, learning about patient rights, privacy, dignity, and effective team communication. Medical Terminology covers anatomical basics and common healthcare abbreviations, providing a foundation for ongoing learning. Introduction to Patient Safety emphasizes the importance of creating safe healthcare environments through systems thinking, communication, and risk reduction. Healthcare Management focuses on leadership, strategic planning, communication, and negotiation within healthcare organizations. Communication in Health Care I develops interpersonal skills, self-awareness, and active listening critical to professional interactions. Healthcare IT Systems introduces healthcare informatics, electronic medical records, information security, and system integration, linking technology with healthcare delivery. In Semester 2, Indigenous Culture & Awareness fosters understanding of Indigenous histories and reconciliation efforts. Quality and Safety in Healthcare teaches evaluation standards and quality improvement projects. Leadership and Healthcare Change explores administrative decision-making, public policy, and healthcare reform. Healthcare and Cultural Competence highlights trans-cultural healthcare delivery, emphasizing respect and appropriateness in diverse settings. Communication in Health Care II builds on previous communication skills, addressing complex topics like community mobilization and public advocacy.
