COURSE CURRICULUM

Practical Nursing diploma program spans four semesters and is carefully structured to build a comprehensive foundation in nursing theory, clinical skills, and professional development. In Semester 1, students begin with Anatomy and Physiology I and develop essential communication skills through Professional Communications. They also gain an understanding of Indigenous Culture and Awareness and complete a general education elective. Core nursing courses include Nursing Practice I, Human Relationships, Professional Growth I, and Nursing Theory I, which introduce students to the foundational principles of nursing and client care. Semester 2 continues with Anatomy and Physiology II and a second general education elective, alongside Nursing Practice II, Health Assessment, and Nursing Theory II, deepening students’ understanding of clinical assessments and patient-centered care. Semester 3 focuses on more advanced topics such as Pathophysiology I and Pharmacology I, preparing students to understand and manage various health conditions. Students also engage in Nursing Practice III, Professional Growth II, and Nursing Theory III to refine clinical reasoning and professional skills. Semester 4 culminates in the final stages of the program with advanced courses including Pathophysiology II, Pharmacology II, and Nursing Theory IV. Students complete two intensive clinical placements: Nursing Practice IV and Nursing Practice V, providing immersive hands-on experience in real healthcare settings. These final placements are designed to prepare students for the transition to professional practice as Registered Practical Nurses. Throughout the program, students engage in evidence-informed practice and are equipped to provide compassionate, competent care in diverse healthcare environments. The curriculum is aligned with the national Entry to Practice Competencies and approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse (REx-PN) and licensure as Registered Practical Nurses, ready to support the health and well-being of individuals and communities.
