COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting diploma program at Northern is designed to provide a comprehensive education that combines fundamental business knowledge with specialized accounting skills over four semesters. In the first semester, students start with foundational courses such as Introduction to Financial Accounting, Human Resources, Business Concepts, Professional Communications, Computer Applications for Business, Business Math, and Marketing, equipping them with essential skills for business environments. The second semester builds on this foundation with more advanced courses including Financial Accounting II, Organizational Behaviour, Microeconomics, Communications in the Workplace, Indigenous Culture and Awareness, Business Math II, and Marketing II, broadening their understanding of the economic, cultural, and communication aspects relevant to business. Semester three dives deeper into accounting specifics with Accounting Applications, Intermediate Accounting I, Management Accounting I, Macroeconomics, a General Education Elective, and Statistics, combining technical accounting knowledge with quantitative analysis and a broader view of economic environments. The final semester focuses on advanced and practical accounting topics with courses in Accounting Information Systems, Intermediate Accounting II, Taxation I, Business Law, Finance I, and a second General Education Elective, preparing students for the complexities of modern accounting practices. Throughout the program, students not only gain expertise in accounting principles and applications but also develop a holistic understanding of how accounting interacts with finance, law, economics, and business strategy.
