COURSE CURRICULUM

Heavy Equipment Techniques program provides comprehensive training across two semesters, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge for the motive power industry. In the first semester, students learn fundamentals including electrical and electronic systems through Electrical & Electronics I, applying problem-solving techniques and circuit testing. Communication Fundamentals enhance workplace communication and computer skills, while Health and Safety introduces students to safe work practices and legal regulations. Indigenous Culture & Awareness fosters respectful understanding of Indigenous history and culture. Computer Methods Trades Software teaches the use of service information systems for diagnostics and repairs. Mathematics & Precision Measurement I covers basic math and measuring tools critical to the trade. Trade Practices and Applications Motive Power focuses on shop safety, tools, fasteners, and practical applications. Drive Train Systems I combines theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice for motor vehicle drivetrain servicing, and Welding I introduces basic welding principles with both classroom and shop instruction. In the second semester, Applied Communications I builds workplace communication skills further. Fluid Power I covers hydraulic system fundamentals, components, and calculations. Fuels I introduces diesel and alternative fuel systems, focusing on diagnostics and repairs. Mathematics & Precision Measurement II continues trade-related math practice. Engines I provides fundamental understanding of internal combustion engines with practical tool use. Motive Power Electrical II develops advanced electrical system knowledge and diagnostic skills. Steering, Suspension and Brakes I teaches key concepts and practical skills in these systems. Welding II builds on basic welding principles with continued practical and theoretical instruction. This well-rounded curriculum prepares students with the technical expertise, practical skills, and safety awareness essential for success in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
