The Animal Grooming certificate program provides comprehensive training through a carefully designed two-semester curriculum that balances theory, practical skills, and professional development. In Semester 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Grooming the Companion Animal, where they learn proper bathing, nail and ear care, and effective client communication. Professional Grooming I focuses on grooming techniques for various companion animals, including detailed handling and styling for cats and dogs, emphasizing practical skills like scissor cuts and coat conditioning. Courses like Managing for Success promote personal and professional growth, helping students develop lifelong learning strategies and effective communication. Animal Behaviour Study and Animal Handling teach students to understand and safely manage animal behavior, essential for grooming and client relations, while Client Relations enhances communication skills, conflict resolution, and customer service relevant to veterinary and grooming settings. Kennel Duty I provides hands-on experience caring for animals in a simulated professional environment. In Semester 2, the program advances grooming expertise with Master Stylist I, covering identification and grooming requirements for 89 dog breeds across three groups, and Professional Groom II, which deepens practical grooming skills and equipment care. Small Business Management introduces students to the essentials of starting and managing a grooming business, including marketing, financial planning, and legal considerations. The curriculum also includes Indigenous Culture & Awareness, fostering cultural understanding and respect. Nutrition and animal care are covered in Feeds and Feeding of Companion Animals and Basic Animal Procedures, ensuring students can advise clients and perform fundamental clinical tasks. Coat and Skin Care focuses on recognizing and treating skin disorders in pets, contributing to overall animal health. Kennel Duty II and Management Technology round out the program by providing advanced animal care practice and training on veterinary software systems, preparing students for a successful career in animal grooming and care.
