COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Laboratory Technology program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career as medical laboratory technologists. In Term 1, students study foundational subjects including Histology Fundamentals, Quality Management and Specimen Handling, Introduction to Immunology, Analytical Principles I and II, and Introductory Medical Laboratory Procedures. Term 2 builds on this foundation with courses in Clinical Chemistry I, Normal Hematology and Coagulation, Histology II, Professionalism and Blood Collection, Clinical Microbiology I, and Transfusion Medicine I, along with an intersession course in Clinical Microbiology II to deepen understanding. Term 3 advances knowledge further through Clinical Chemistry II, Pathology of Blood Cells, Clinical Microbiology III, Research in Healthcare, and Transfusion Medicine II. The final term, Term 4, focuses on practical application through Interprofessional Healthcare Education and three Clinical Placement courses, providing extensive hands-on experience in real healthcare settings. This well-rounded curriculum ensures graduates are proficient in laboratory techniques, quality control, microbiology, hematology, transfusion medicine, and research skills. By combining theoretical learning with clinical practice, the program prepares students to meet the demands of modern healthcare environments and successfully write the national certification exam to become licensed medical laboratory technologists.
