COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forest Technology program at NAIT offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for sustainable forest management. In Term 1, courses focus on foundational topics including Worksite Safety, Forest Inventory I, Forest Measurements, Forest Ecosystems, Wildfire Suppression, and Communications, providing students with essential field and safety skills. Term 2 builds on this foundation with Forest Engineering, Forest Management I, Forest Soils and Plants, Forest Health, GPS and GIS I, and Professional Development, emphasizing technical skills and environmental understanding. Term 3 covers Reclamation and Land Use, Silviculture I, Forest Harvesting and Milling, Watershed Management, and GPS and GIS II, advancing students' knowledge of forest restoration, harvesting practices, and spatial technologies. In Term 4, students deepen their expertise with Forest Inventory II, Forest Management II, Silviculture II, Wildfire Management, Harvest Management, and Harvest Planning, focusing on advanced management strategies and planning techniques. Throughout the program, hands-on learning and real-world applications are integrated, preparing graduates for careers in forestry, environmental consulting, and land management. This well-rounded curriculum ensures students develop the practical and theoretical skills needed to manage Alberta’s forests sustainably and effectively for future generations.
