COURSE CURRICULUM

NAIT’s Engineering Design Technology program offers a comprehensive curriculum spread over four terms, providing students with the essential skills and knowledge for a successful career in engineering design. In Term 1, courses such as Engineering Communications, Introduction to AutoCAD, Engineering Graphics, Technical Mathematics and Statistics, Statics, and Introduction to Surveying lay a strong foundation in technical communication, drafting, mathematics, and basic engineering principles. Term 2 builds on this foundation with Intermediate AutoCAD, Fluid Mechanics, Mapping Systems and Survey Drawings, Machine Elements, Strength of Materials, and Calculus, enhancing both practical and theoretical understanding of engineering concepts. In Term 3, students explore advanced topics including Building Information Modeling (BIM), Subdivision Design, Mechanical Design, Process Vessel Design, Structural Design and Theory, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, preparing them for specialized applications in various industries. The final term, Term 4, focuses on cutting-edge and applied design practices through courses such as Additive and Advanced Manufacturing Design, Infrastructure Design, Process Plant Design, Reinforced Concrete Design, Technical Report writing, and Project Management for the Technologist. Together, these courses ensure graduates are well-prepared to bridge the gap between engineering concepts and real-world implementation, equipped with the latest software skills and industry knowledge necessary to excel in construction, infrastructure, and manufacturing sectors.
