COURSE CURRICULUM

The Electrical Installations Technology program at NAIT offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the electrical industry. In Term 1, students begin with foundational courses including Introduction to the Canadian Electrical Code Part I, Electrical Applications and Safety, Fundamental Electrical Theory, Effective Communications I, and Residential Electrical Drawings. Term 2 advances these skills with Canadian Electrical Code Part I Level 2, Alternating Current Circuits, Heating and Cooling Systems, Magnetic Controls and Switching Circuits, and Electrical Drawing Interpretation and Conversions. In Term 3, the focus shifts to Canadian Electrical Code Part I Level 3, Three-Phase Systems, Three-Phase Motors and Machines, Transformers and Transformer Connections, and Commercial Electrical Drawings, providing deeper understanding of complex electrical systems. The final term, Term 4, emphasizes practical applications with Canadian Electrical Code Applications, Electrician Professional Practice, Fire Alarm and Safety Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, and Applications of Industrial Electronics. This blend of theoretical learning and practical training ensures graduates are well-prepared to work in residential, commercial, and industrial environments, communicate effectively, interpret electrical drawings accurately, and apply the Canadian Electrical Code with confidence, positioning them for successful careers or further apprenticeship training in the electrical trades.
