COURSE CURRICULUM

The Construction Engineering Technology diploma program at NAIT offers a well-rounded curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with practical application to prepare students for careers in construction management and engineering. Over four terms, students explore a range of subjects essential to the construction industry, beginning with foundational courses in engineering mechanics, technical mathematics, communication, materials, and drawing interpretation. As the program progresses, students build on their understanding with advanced studies in building science, project planning, scheduling, organizational behavior, and quantity surveying. Term 3 emphasizes the technical aspects of construction with courses in wood and steel structures, soil mechanics, equipment management, estimating direct costs, contract documents, and project management. In the final term, students delve into more complex topics such as concrete structures, building information modeling (BIM), conceptual estimating, cost control, and construction safety. Specialized courses in finance and construction design ensure students are prepared to manage both technical and financial aspects of construction projects. Throughout the program, there is a strong emphasis on estimating, planning, and coordination—skills that are crucial for roles such as estimator, project coordinator, contract administrator, and construction manager. With its industry-aligned curriculum, this program equips graduates to contribute effectively to construction projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
