COURSE CURRICULUM

The Conservation Biology diploma program at NAIT offers a diverse and comprehensive course lineup that blends biological science, environmental studies, and technical field skills. In Term 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Laboratory Techniques and Calculations, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry in Biology, and Introduction to Ecology. They also explore Microbiology and Invertebrate Zoology while developing essential scientific communication skills. Term 2 builds on this base with courses like Applied Plant Morphology, Biostatistics, Vertebrate Zoology, Soil Science, and the legal and ethical aspects of biological work. Students also gain hands-on experience in Ecological Field Studies during the intersession. In Term 3, learning focuses on specialized areas including Taxonomic Botany, Limnology, Mammology, Entomology, Soil and Vegetation Reclamation, and Parks and Environmental Education. The final term is applied and field-oriented, featuring a capstone Conservation Biology Project, Wildlife and Range Management, and courses in Fisheries Techniques, Management, Ornithology, and wilderness survival. Throughout the program, students gain technical and practical experience in species identification, ecosystem assessment, and habitat conservation, preparing them for roles in environmental consulting, wildlife management, and ecological research. This curriculum ensures graduates are ready to meet the growing demand for skilled conservation professionals in government, nonprofit, and private sectors.
