COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering Technology diploma program at NAIT offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop both technical and practical skills required in the civil construction industry. In Term 1, students gain foundational knowledge in soil mechanics, surveying, structural mechanics, estimating, and basic drafting using AutoCAD. Term 2 builds on this foundation with courses in structural analysis, surficial geology, pavement material testing, and more advanced surveying and AutoCAD applications, alongside technical math and statistics. In Term 3, the focus shifts toward fluid mechanics, highway design, geotechnical testing, and mix design for concrete and asphalt. Students are also introduced to Civil 3D, a critical industry software. Term 4 deepens expertise in highway and geotechnical design, reinforced concrete, and urban service design while culminating in an applied technology project. Students also study project management to prepare for leadership roles. Across all four terms, there is a consistent emphasis on applying theoretical concepts to real-world civil engineering problems through labs, design projects, and fieldwork. Graduates are well-equipped to support engineers in areas such as road design, structural analysis, materials testing, and urban infrastructure development, making them valuable assets in municipal governments, engineering consulting firms, and construction companies.
