COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography – General and Cardiac program offers a structured, six-term course sequence designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in sonography. In Term 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals with courses such as Introduction to Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Physical Principles and Instrumentation, Sonography of Normal Abdominal and Superficial Structures, Cardiovascular System, and Gynaecologic Sonography. Term 2 builds on this foundation, covering Pathology of the Abdomen and Superficial Structures, Fundamentals of Adult Echocardiography, First Trimester Obstetrical Sonography, and Sonography of Cerebral and Abdominal Vascular Systems. Term 3 focuses on Professional Practice, Peripheral Venous System and Duplex Scanning, Integrative Assessment in Adult Echocardiography, and Sonographic Assessment of Second and Third Trimesters. Terms 4 through 6 emphasize clinical experience through four progressive clinical practicum courses (DMS Clinical I-IV), where students apply their knowledge in real healthcare settings under supervision. Term 4 also includes Interprofessional Healthcare Education to promote collaborative healthcare skills. This blend of theoretical coursework and extensive clinical training equips graduates to confidently enter the workforce as qualified diagnostic medical sonographers, proficient in both general and cardiac ultrasound techniques, and prepares them to challenge national certification exams.
