COURSE CURRICULUM

The Water and Wastewater Technician program at NAIT is structured across three terms, providing a balanced combination of foundational knowledge, intermediate skills, and practical industry experience. In Term 1, students begin with WWWT1110 Water Distribution Foundations, which covers the basics of water supply systems and their operation. WWWT1120 Water Treatment Foundations introduces essential concepts in treating drinking water to meet safety standards. WWWT1130 Wastewater Collection Foundations focuses on the systems and techniques used to collect and transport wastewater, while WWWT1140 Wastewater Treatment Foundations teaches the processes involved in treating wastewater to protect the environment and public health. WWWT1180 Water and Wastewater Industry Awareness provides students with an understanding of the industry’s regulatory framework, safety practices, and career opportunities. In Term 2, courses build on this knowledge with more advanced topics: WWWT2110 Intermediate Water Distribution and WWWT2120 Intermediate Water Treatment deepen students’ technical skills in managing water systems and treatment processes. WWWT2130 Intermediate Wastewater Collection and WWWT2140 Intermediate Wastewater Treatment focus on the advanced operation and maintenance of wastewater systems and treatment plants. Term 3 consists of WWWT1191 Industry Practicum, a hands-on work placement where students apply their learning in real-world settings under professional supervision. This practicum is crucial for gaining practical experience, developing workplace skills, and preparing for Alberta’s Water and Wastewater Provincial Level One Certification Exams. Together, these courses equip graduates with the expertise needed to start successful careers in the vital water and wastewater industry.
