COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Science Diploma program spans two years and provides students with a solid foundation in the biological, chemical, psychological, and physical sciences while integrating Indigenous perspectives and regional healthcare considerations. In the first year, students complete core courses including Principles of Modern Biology I and II, Chemical Principles I and II, Introductory Psychology I and II, and Indigenous Literatures in Canada, along with English composition courses and mathematics options such as Calculus or Finite Mathematics. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced courses such as Cell Biology, Island Pre-Health I and II, Introduction to Physics I and II, Health Psychology, and Introduction to Statistics, alongside specialized courses in Genetics or Microbiology. Additionally, students select three electives from a diverse range of options including Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Epidemiology, Research Methods, Developmental and Biological Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, and courses on reconciliation, culture, and social issues. This curriculum is designed to equip students with critical thinking, analytical skills, and a comprehensive understanding of health sciences in societal and regional contexts. Graduates are prepared for careers in health-related fields or to pursue further education, gaining both practical knowledge and theoretical insight necessary to address contemporary health challenges and contribute meaningfully to healthcare and community well-being.
