COURSE CURRICULUM

The Early Childhood Care and Education Diploma – Infants and Toddlers program includes a comprehensive set of courses designed to build both theoretical understanding and practical skills. Students begin with foundational subjects like ECC 104 Developmental Journey and ECC 114 Partnerships Part I: Child Guidance, then progress to advanced topics such as ECC 116 Advanced Guiding and Caring and ECC 204 Developmental Journeys Part II. The curriculum covers child development, play-based learning, and curriculum planning through courses like ECC 124, 125, and 224 The Learning Child Parts I, II, and III. Students also gain knowledge in health and safety (ECC 168), interpersonal communication (ECC 157), and understanding child-family-community dynamics (ECC 163). Professional development is emphasized through ECC 136 Foundations of Professional Practice, ECC 255 Self and Others Part III, and ECC 268 Supervising Early Childhood Centers. A strong focus is placed on experiential learning through multiple practicum components: ECC 140, 141, and 142 Practice Experience I, II, III, and the specialized ECC 246 Infants and Toddler practicum. This well-rounded curriculum ensures graduates are fully prepared to work in early childhood settings, especially with infants and toddlers.
