COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology Diploma program features a multidisciplinary curriculum that builds a strong foundation in the study of crime, justice, and law. Core courses include Introduction to Criminology (CRM 101), the Criminal Justice System (CRM 131), Canadian Law and Legal Institutions (CRM 135), and Criminal Law (CRM 230), with further exploration through Law and Politics (POL 151). Students gain essential psychological perspectives through Introductory Psychology I and II (PSY 130 and PSY 131), and Psychological Explanations of Criminal and Deviant Behaviour (PSY 260). The sociological dimension is covered with Introduction to Sociology I (SOC 110), Research Methods (SOC 220), and Sociological Explanations of Crime and Deviance (SOC 230). Communication and critical analysis are developed through writing courses such as Essay Writing and Critical Analysis (ENG 115) or Essay Writing & Indigenous Perspectives (ENG 116), along with literature options like Reading Literature (ENG 122) or Indigenous Literatures in Canada (ENG 127). Students also explore philosophical thinking through either Introductory Philosophy (PHI 100) or Critical Thinking (PHI 150). A statistics requirement is met with Introduction to Statistics (STA 115) or Data Analysis in Psychology (PSY 218). To round out the diploma, students choose from specialized topics such as Introduction to Corrections (CRM 241), Policing (CRM 251), or Historical Reactions to Criminal Behaviour (HIS 260). This diverse mix prepares graduates for careers in justice or further academic study.
