COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Administration Diploma at North Island College (NIC) offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in core business principles while allowing students to specialize in accounting. In the first year, all diploma students complete fundamental courses such as Financial Accounting Fundamentals (BUS 100), Principles of Business (BUS 105), Mathematics of Finance (BUS 132), Principles of Management (BUS 150), Principles of Marketing (BUS 162), Computer Applications for Business (BUS 170), and Principles of Microeconomics (ECO 110). Students also choose between Effective Organizational Writing (ENG 160) or Effective Organizational Communications (ENG 166), and one academic writing course—ENG 115, 116, or 117. In the second year, the Accounting Option focuses on advanced and applied business studies, including Financial Accounting Fundamentals for Accountants (BUS 200), Intermediate Financial Accounting (BUS 211 or an elective), Management Accounting (BUS 217), Commercial Law (BUS 221), Taxation – Individual (BUS 223), Finance (BUS 244), Entrepreneurship (BUS 253), Introduction to Statistics (STA 115), and Principles of Macroeconomics (ECO 111). Students also select one Indigenous studies or related elective, such as courses in Aboriginal governance, community development, or Indigenous literature. This well-rounded program integrates business theory, quantitative skills, and social awareness, preparing graduates for diverse careers or continued studies in business and accounting.
