COURSE CURRICULUM

The Engineering Foundations Certificate curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong academic and practical grounding in the core principles of engineering, preparing them for further studies at universities such as UVic, UBC, SFU, and other institutions. In the first year, students engage with foundational courses in mathematics, including Calculus I and II and Matrix Algebra, as well as physics through Principles of Physics I and II, to develop analytical and problem-solving skills essential for engineering applications. Chemistry is introduced through Engineering Chemistry I, alongside computer programming courses in C++ and advanced programming to support technical competence in modern engineering practice. Students also study Engineering Mechanics, exploring statics and dynamics, and participate in introductory engineering courses that provide exposure to design, project management, and practical problem-solving. Complementing the technical courses, students enhance their communication skills through essay writing, organizational writing, and Indigenous perspectives courses, ensuring proficiency in professional and academic communication. Optional work term opportunities allow students to gain hands-on experience and apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. Through this combination of rigorous coursework, technical training, and applied experience, the program equips students with a comprehensive foundation in engineering principles, critical thinking, and practical skills, enabling them to transition seamlessly into university-level engineering programs or related fields while preparing to tackle complex technological and design challenges.
